The only serious criticism of StarTap that we've felt was deserved was that it was too bloated. It wouldn't fit easily on smaller machines, and could make even newer machines sluggish. No more!

StarLyt is a complete rewrite of the basic functions of StarTap. 90% of its interface is the same, but it does everything in a completely different way. There is no StarTap.btn file anymore. You'll find your shortcuts in Windows / Desktop, and they're just regular CE shortcuts.

The browsing through StarTap's main folders has been expanded to browse through anywhere on the machine. Rather than having StarTap's shortcuts live in their own little world, they're a regular part of the file system of the machine, and you can browse over the whole machine the same way you do through StarLyt's shortcuts. All the same Drag and Drop and Cut and Paste operations work on the whole file system. Also, it's really quick!

Also, the same Custom Icon, Custom Icon Placement, and Image Thumbnail capabilities of StarTap are here. It's compatible with existing Themes. It'll even move all of your existing shortcuts to the new location automatically, when you install it.

Also, there's a real Recycle Bin. Delete files through StarLyt's desktop, and they'll be moved to the Recycle Bin. Delete the bin itself to erase them completely. StarTap's Explorer doesn't use the new Recycle yet, but it shall.

What has disappeared is the toolbar. In its place, you'll use the context menu.

Alas, the icons in the existing Control Panel are gone, and may or may not get resurrected. In any case, you have direct access to Start Menu / Settings, and all the applets are in there.

Probably what's most important about LytBar is what it's not: It is not the next version of GigaBar. It is not an improvement over GigaBar. It's just different. In many ways it's simpler to understand and use. It's more finger friendly. It has all the same built-in functions that GigaBar has, but it's not as expandable. Some will like it better. Some won't. That's life!
